Bloom School of Music and The Purple Twig present:

Creative Kids Arts Camp!


When: Begins July 9- Aug 31. Monday - Friday

How much:
$300/week for the 4-9 year olds (9am-3pm)
$225/ week for 3 year olds (9am-1:30pm)

Ages:

3 years olds
4-5 years olds
6-9 years olds

What: Creative Kids Arts Camp is a fully integrated Arts Camp that integrates literature, art, music, drama and creative movement each week for a full understanding, exploration and arts experience!

"After-care Monday- Thursday 2:45-5:30 for $80 a week provided by Purple Twig. We welcome ages 4-9. We will play games, do some drawing and read stories. Please go to purpletwig.com to register."

FAQ:
1. Do I have to register for all weeks?
No. You can choose any week from week one beginning July9 to last week of Aug. 27th

2. Does my child need experience in music, art, drama or dance/movement?
Absolutely not. No prior experience necessary.

3. Will the students get any outdoor play time?
Yes. We will all walk to nearby park for lunch and outdoor play

4. Will there be a sign in and sign out?
Yes. We will have an adult at Bloom and one at Purple Twig signing in all students. Sign out will be done at Bloom

5. Will you have themes?
We have awesome themes that change each week. All themes will be integrated into all disciplines covered at the camp- music, art, drama and movement

SUMMER CAMP THEME DETAILS

Ages 3

WEEK 1 July 9-13 - Little Birds
Chickadees, cardinals, woodpeckers, owls, finches. There are so many to name. We will paint them, draw them, build them, make nests for them all the while exploring color, textures, natural materials and recycled materials. We will explore songs, poetry and movement related to little birds.

WEEK 2 July 16-20 - Bees
Bees are so mysterious. We will look at the importance of our friends the bees, the hives they create, the honey they make and how they make fruits grow. We will do printmaking, gluing, cutting, painting and sculpting. Bees have a special dance and make wonderful sounds during their busy, busy days. We will make our own bee dance while singing and playing.

WEEK 3 July 23-27 Trip to the Zoo
What kind of animals would you have in your zoo? We will talk about zoos and their importance as well as the animals that live in them. We will make our own homes for animals out of a variety of materials. We will compose theme music, sounds and rhythms for our animals.

WEEK 4 July 30- Aug. 3 Circles, Triangles and Squares
We will use the basic fundamental shapes to look at the world around us. We will explore textures and materials by building other objects such as treasure boxes, paintings or collaged people using these shapes.  We will explore music with 2 beats (duple meter) and 3 beats (triple meter) and learn to feel and dance the difference.

WEEK 5 Aug 6-10 Red, Blue and Yellow
You can make any and all other colors from these three colors. We will be mixing and combining, like little scientists to make paintings, potions, prints and collages. We will learn songs and poetry about color. In dance we will answer questions like “How does yellow move?” and “Jump like red!”

WEEK 6 Aug 13th- 17th - Under the sea
There is so much to discover in our oceans, octopi, coral, seahorses and jellyfish. We will look and explore all of these incredible living things and more through building sculptures, making mobiles and paintings. We will learn about music that has been inspired by the sea from sea shanties to Saint Saens. We will use all of our creations to inspire our movements and dance.

WEEK 7 Aug 20th-24th - Puppets
Sock puppets, little puppets, paper puppets, hand puppets, shadow puppets. While making puppets from fabrics, recycled materials, clay and more, we will create backdrops and create short but sweet performances.  Our puppets will sing and dance too.

WEEK 8 Aug 27th- Aug 31 - Love a Parade
We will be building our own floats from boxes. We will paint them and decorate them with plenty of bling. We will wear them for a grand parade. We will learn how to march in a grand parade and keep a beat while we do it!

Ages 4-5

WEEK 1 July 9-13 Magical Trees
Trees are so important. They provide homes for animals and shade and oxygen for us. We will study them from the roots to the leaves. We will make paintings, collages, rubbings, and costumes. We will explore poetry, music and dance while incorporating this enchanting theme.

WEEK 2 July 16-20 Land of the Lost
We will talk about and look at Dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. These monsters of the past are mysterious and exciting. We will explore different kinds of painting techniques while making our dinosaurs. There may also be a fossil or two. Dinosaurs have difficult sounding names- we will put rhythms to each name and learn to play and identify them by these.

WEEK 3 July 23-27 Aviary Adventures
There are so many different types of birds from finches to falcons. We will look at some of these birds, their habitats and climates. We will paint them, collage them, and build homes for them. We will play and sing songs about birds. We will have plenty of room to dance and fly about!

WEEK 4 July 30-Aug 3 Kings and Queens
We will be reading all the wonderful poems and books about Kings and Queens. We will make crowns, costumes and castles from a variety of materials. We will play musical games incorporating kings and queens. We will learn to be very regal and may even be mistaken for a king or queen by week’s end.

WEEK 5 Aug 6-10 Puppets

WEEK 6 Aug 13-17 Join the Parade

WEEK 7 Aug 20-24 Outerspace
Space exploration can be so mystical. We will be talking about planets both far and near and make our own solar system from clay, cardboard, and recycled materials and talk about who may live on those planets. We may also decide how they move, play and sing their own songs.

WEEK 8 Aug 27-31 Animal Circus
We will explore the circus animal train. We will use recycled materials to build train cars for our animal creations. We will also be using the circus as inspiration for drawings and paintings as well as music and movement.

Ages 6-9

WEEK 1 July 9-13 - Ariadne’s thread
Ariadne used her ball of thread to save Theseus by leading him through the Labyrinth to escape the Minotaur. We will explore mystical mazes with secret corridors and chambers. We will also explore thread and some of the things that can do, weaving, hanging and drawing. We will make a musical path with rhythms and notation and music.

WEEK 2 July 16-20 - Puppets
While warming up with sock puppets, we will move onto marionette puppets from fabric, recycled materials, natural materials and so much more. Collectively we will design and paint backdrops to create wonderful performances.  We will create our own music to go with our puppet performances.

WEEK 3 July 23-27 - Things that go
Dominoes being knocked down one by one or a marble rolling down from one tube to another, we will experiment with the chain reaction. We will explore and make our own chain reaction structures. We will explore how one thing affects the other in movement and in music.

WEEK 4 July 30-Aug 3 Icarus
A tale of a boy lost in the joy of flying, so much so he forgets his father’s warning and flies too close to the sun. We will look at things that fly, make costumes and sets while we create an interpretation of this myth.

WEEK 5 Aug 6-10 - Here comes the Circus
We will use Calder’s “Circus Mechanique” as an inspiration to create circus creatures from clay and recycled materials. We will work together to make a unique circus of our own complete with music.

WEEK 6 Aug 13-17 - Land of the Lost
We will talk about and look at Dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. These monsters of the past are mysterious and exciting. We will explore different kinds of painting techniques while making our dinosaurs. There may also be a fossil or two. We will consider the difference between macro and micro beats in music as well our own dangerous musical soundscapes.

WEEK 7 Aug 20-24 - Blue
The blues is more than a feeling! It is a musical form with a rich history that not only has influenced all of popular music but important poets like Langston Hughes and artists such as Kandinsky. We will learn about its origins in the work song as well as call and response songs. We will compose our own blues compositions while letting the blues and our own music influence our own poetry and art.

WEEK 8 Aug 27-31
It’s a Parade Who loves a parade? We do! We will be building our own floats from boxes. We will create lavish floats with paint, paper them with plenty of bling, maybe a dragon float or a ship float. We will wear them for a grand parade and march, wave and sing!
